HELLACAUST, the most recognized extreme metal band from the Maritimes, is back with "What is not", full length number 4 in their discography and first in collaboration with PRC MUSIC. The Quartet, for the uninitiated, is 14 years of crushing it on the roads, learning the concepts of technique and composition, refining his skills and setting out on his own artistic path. Mixing various influences, HELLACAUST is crude, sharp and in your face. Obviously, this isn’t one for the casual metal fan. But those looking for the seedy underbelly of maniacal extreme Canadian Metal , "What is not" is a great blast of raw blackened thrash reeking of the anger of crust punk... Sick and fucking addictive.
Formed in a blur of worship of everything evil, fast and violent, HELLACAUST has flown the flag of hate from their vast coasts of Nova Scotia since the year 2000. The band's early influences ranged from VENOM, BATHORY, NIFELHEIM, IMMORTAL and WAR to BLACK SABBATH, OZZY and MOTORHEAD to BRUTAL TRUTH, TERRORIZER and DOOM, creating a chaotic maelstrom of head banging fury that is completely unfocused, yet liberating and infectious. The band works with a DIY mindset, self-recording everything from their early demos, right up to the punishing DISGUST, released in 2008. Years of touring the great white north, spreading the plague via beers and blasting metal and viewing the world through the smog of corruption and ignorance that is today’s human nature have amalgamated in their new album, WHAT IS NOT. Philosophical yet blunt, angry yet rejoiceful, the new album is nothing but a statement from a band with their feet planted firmly amongst the shit storm surrounding them.
